Early Childhood Development |
|
The early childhood development programmes run from our community centres. It has been proven that children who have the opportunity to attend Early Childhood Development programmes (from age 0 to 6 years) have a 25% better chance of succeeding at formal schooling that starts at age 7.
In 2007, the Hillbrow PreSchool was operational, construction in Diepsloot started, and building plans for Alexandra and Orange Farm had been approved.
In 2009, the Hillbrow, Diepsloot and Orange Farm Early Childhood Development Centres are up and running. The Alexandra ECD Centre is at ground floor level during the construction phase and there are plans to launch similar ECD programmes within the next three years in Delft and Mfuleni.
These programmes are designed by leading experts in the field of children aged between one and six years. The purpose is to provide children with skills that will empower them to achieve better result when they start school, and to give them a safe place where they escape the violence and poverty for most of the day.
