AT FIRST glance, Johannes’s bedroom looks like that of any 16-year-old boy: a small television, a poster of the rap singer Eminem and a pile of clothes, partially hidden under an armchair. But the television is broken, the poster conceals a hole and the covers on the armchair are tattered and torn. Johannes shares this single-room shack with his six-year-old niece Mabusha, and eleven-year-old brother Teboho. There is no power, and food is cooked on a fire outside.
