HIV Positive Youth Connect

Renowned international speaker Sindiwe Mogane - storyteller, writer and actress - inspired the adolescents at Friday’s event in Kenilworth, hosted by Pick ’n Pay.

“The day provided a safe place for these issues to be tackled and solutions to be identified. It also acts as a platform to leverage and improve our facilitator’s skills used in the Student for Student (SFS) informal education programme,” adds Amanda Zar, events and marketing manager of MaAfrika Tikkun, who’s aim is to nurture and develop a new generation of strong leaders.

A group of MaAfrika Tikkun educational facilitators’ compiled an interactive programme focusing on the exchange of ideas with creative activities exploring both self esteem and interaction skills as well as a movement/dance and singing workshop.

Zar is confident that the “MaAfrika Tikkun and the Family Clinic Adolescent Lifestyle Day” will become a sustainable, bi-annual day where our country’s youth connect, exchange experiences and form relationships within a safe environment.

About The Tygerberg Hospital Clinic
The clinic was established in January 1997 in order to provide comprehensive service for families with HIV.  The aim was to minimize inconvenience by providing health care for all family members at the same time.  Parents are seen by clinicians with expertise in infectious diseases and HIV.  Children are seen by Doctors with a special interest in HIV.  Social workers, counselors and a dietician are available for consultation and plan an active roll in managing patients.
