MaAfrika Tikkun was launched as a Jewish-led initiative by Dr Bertie
Lubner and the late Chief Rabbi Cyril Harris in 1994 when Mr Nelson
Mandela became the first democratic president of South Africa. Madiba
is still our Patron-in-Chief 13 years later. We registered as a BEE
company in 2006 and have people from many different cultural and
religious backgrounds in our team. Our mission is to make a meaningful
difference in South Africa by caring for the vulnerable children living
in townships as well as caring for those who impact the lives of these
vulnerable children. We focus on true empowerment of caregivers as well
as the children by providing a holistic set of services focused on
babies, children and teenagers.
Through our projects, which are done in collaboration with community partners, we aim to maximise synergy and creatively add value. Our philosophy is to create environments which are self-sustaining and empowering to those involved, in order to arm children with knowledge to build a better life for themselves.
In terms of this, we follow a double-component strategy in delivering services by involving ourselves in CARING and SKILLING projects. Our caring programs are aimed at people who are living below the poverty line and at children and the aged who are neglected and ostracized due to HIV/AIDs. Our skilling projects are aimed at children and adults who are otherwise unable to obtain further education and training to progress in life. This philosophy also aims to arm people with knowledge to build a better life for themselves
